Trashy Yard Becoming Neighborhood Eyesore

CORPUS CHRISTI - Juanita Heslip has lived at her house on Moore St. for about 50 years. She says the neighborhood has gone through its fair share of problems but there's one issue in particular that's really starting to get on her nerves.

"We have so many flies out here we can't even sit on the front porch," Heslip said.

Heslip says there are a few abandoned houses in the area and people are just dumping their garbage outside one of them.

"I've caught peoples putting trash in my garbage can," she said. "They're too lazy to put their trash out but they want to trash up somebody else's property."

2602 Moore has a whole slew of garbage scattered across its lawn and Heslip says this pile of brush out in front of it is from one of her neighbors who apparently just tosses it there. The boarded up door and windows indicate the house is abandoned and Heslip says she can't even remember the last time someone lived there. Nevertheless, she says something has to be done about the trash.

Heslip said, "Thanksgiving day we couldn't even enjoy our meal because every time somebody come they let a whole bunch of flies in."

Aside from the inconvenience factor, Heslip says this dumping ground can't be good for her family's health.

"I'm very concerned because I got kids, great grandkids and it's germy not only for the kids but it's germy for the grownups too," she said.

We brought the issue to code enforcement's attention and they said first thing tomorrow morning they'll take a look at the property and see what they can do to fix the problem.
