Valley Man Sets Up Camp Early For Black Friday

CORPUS CHRISTI - Local retailers are also gearing up for another rush of shoppers on Black Friday.
Many are opening on Thanksgiving this year and we found one Valley Man already camped out in front of Best Buy. And believe it or not, he's been there since Tuesday.

When I arrived, I found 22 year old Tocho Leal from McAllen Texas fast asleep, his feet sticking out of his pup tent outside Best Buy.

"Hey there, sorry to wake you. Good morning," I said, waking him up.

Despite the rude wake up call, Tocho didn't mind me pulling up a seat. But it wasn't long before people passing by were stopping to ask for advice from this campout guru.

"Do you have somebody trading with you," one passerby asked. "Yeah. My cousin is somewhere," Leal replied. She said, "That's smart."

And that's not the only tactic Tocho is savvy to.

He and his cousin, who was off getting breakfast at the time, came here from McAllen where there are 4 Best Buy stores, compared to our one. Meaning the items they are after are in bulk supply here because they aren't spread out between multiple store locations.

When we finally got a moment, Tocho told me he was after an Ipod, a laptop and a TV. Not to mention whatever else catches his eye. But in the meantime.

"The main plan is sleep. Don't get stolen. Try to study I mean I have an exam Monday," Tocho told me.

I asked him, "What exam do you have Monday?

He replied, "Iso-electrical system, and I'm doing really bad. So, Dr. Ramos, be merciful if you are watching this."

And though Tocho wouldn't recommend camping on the hard sidewalk for nearly 3 nights to just anyone, but he knows the crowds are coming soon.

And when they do, he says it will be worth the wait.

"I mean, you have to do it once in your life. I'm not really sure if you want to come every year but once in a while or once in your lifetime, it's worth it," he said.
