We get a lot of e-mail from our viewers asking when KDF will be available in HD. The short answer is: It's still a few years away. Read on for the explanation why...
KDF is licensed as a Class A low-power station. During the summer of 2006, the FCC began the process to accept applications for low-power stations to apply for a digital channel. KDF has applied for its digital companion channels (FCC Database). We have received the approval for station K22JA-D that covers the Corpus Christi market and that digital transmitter is on the air. We also have approval for a digital companion channel that covers the Kingsville and Alice markets. That station (K48LL-D) is expected to be on the air by the end of March, 2012. We are still waiting for the license covering the Beeville and Refugio markets.
On both K22JA-D and K48LL-D we will have Telemundo in HD on the first channel and KDF in SD on the second. At this time most of the KDF programming is not available in HD. When we do have sufficient HD programming available we will upgrade KDF to also be in HD.
