Latest Update West Oso Teacher Appeals Firing

CORPUS CHRISTI - We have continuing coverage on the West Oso High School teacher accused of sending inappropriate text messages to a female student. Earlier this month, the West Oso School Board voted to fire Christopher Williams, but Williams has appealed his termination.

District officials tell us that Williams has hired a lawyer with a law firm out of Austin, and will have a special hearing with an examiner appointed by the Texas Education Agency within 10 days.

It's expected that hearing will finally determine whether or not Williams will lose his job.

As we've reported, Williams' name has come up in at least four other incidents going back to 2005, including two arrests, but only one conviction.

Williams was placed on paid administrative leave back on January 14th, meaning that it's been forty-five days since the district's investigation began, and Williams has been getting paid the entire time.

And again, there could be up to 10 more days before that T.E.A hearing takes place.

Final Decision on Williams' Job with West Oso ISD Could Come Thursday

02/26/2013 10:53 AM by Veronica Flores

CORPUS CHRISTI - West Oso I.S.D. will hold a special meeting on Thursday to discuss whether to formally terminate the teacher accused of sending inappropriate text messages to one of his students.

On February 4th, the school board voted unanimously to fire Christopher Williams. He had 15 days to appeal their decision, but there's no word on whether he has.

As we reported last month, the district investigated Williams after a female student at the school told officials Williams was sending her text messages.

The district has continued paying Williams since it placed him on administrative leave with pay January 14th.

The school board will meet Thursday at 6:30pm to discuss whether to terminate his contract.

West Oso Board Votes to Fire Williams

02/05/2013 10:42 AM

CORPUS CHRISTI - In a unanimous 7-0 decision, the West Oso Independent School District's board of trustees voted to fire high school business teacher Christopher Williams after a two-hour closed-door meeting Monday night.

Williams, 29, who was previously suspended with pay, has two weeks to appeal the board's decision.

As we've reported, Williams has been suspended from the district while they investigate to see if he sent inappropriate text messages to a female student.

6 News has investigated Williams past and here's what we found.

In 2005, Williams was arrested here in Corpus Christi for a harrassment charge out Travis County. Police say that Williams made inappropriate, sexual phone calls to a woman that he went to school with at the University of Texas in Austin. Williams pled guilty to a lesser charge and received two years deferred prosecution in that case.

Then we found that Williams worked at King High School from 2006 to 2007 and resigned from the school in January of 2008. But his resignation letter makes no mention of why he's resigning, so very unclear.

Then in December 2008, 6 News received an email from C.C.P.D saying that Williams had been arrested after a woman called police from her apartment on Ennis Joslin to say that a suspicious man was stalking her.

After further investigation, police linked Williams to three separate cases on the southside of town where women said a man had exposed himself to them. 6 News was unable to find any records of a conviction on this arrest in Nueces County.

And one day after we received the email from police, the Corpus Christi School District delivered a letter to Williams discussing his arrest and connection to the indecent exposure cases. The letter reads, "For that reason, you are hereby served with notice that you are prohibited from coming on to any property owned by Corpus Christi I.S.D".

Then, in another case involving Williams in 2010, a family hired private investigators to look into his past. Those investigators tell us that Williams was in the process of getting his records expunged or wiped out. That was the same year that he was hired at West Oso High School.

So the question is: How much did the district know about Williams' past? Superintendent Elizabeth Saenz says Williams was already employed when she came on board with the district. She said part of her investigation is to find out what was known at the time of his hire.

"If there was nothing in his past, I think that's probably why they hired him," she says.

During our investigation, we made several attempts to contact Williams, but were unsuccessful.
