CORPUS CHRISTI - The two men charged with the murder of another during a suspected drug deal gone bad entered not guilty pleas this morning.

Anthony Diaz, 29, and Brian Edwards, 43, are accused of killing Juan Ramirez, 34, at the carwash near 15th and Morgan back in February.

Police say Diaz was the triggerman in the shooting. Both remain in jail awaiting a trial this summer.

Edwards Arrested for Alleged Role in Car Wash Murder

CORPUS CHRISTI - An officer with good eyes spotted a man wanted in connection with the February 11th murder of Juan Ramirez at a car wash on Morgan Avenue. The officer was in the process of pulling over a red Ford F-150 when the driver stopped at a shopping center at Carroll Lane and Holly Road. A man and woman inside the truck took off on foot.

Police say the woman who ran from the truck went into a bar and tried to act like she was a customer. An officer caught up with 42-year-old Brian "Eddie" Edwards thanks to some help from nearby citizens. He's now being held at the City Detention Center on a charge of murder with a $750,000 bond.

According to the arrest affidavit, Edwards was linked to the murder using data from the victim's cell phone. Detectives believe Edwards is the man seen in surveillance video from the car wash getting out of a dark colored sedan. The affidavit states Ramirez and Edwards were sending messages to each other about drug sales.

The affidavit states Edwards is already on federal probation, but the the nature of his convictions is not known. Online Nueces County court records show he was arrested last summer for driving while intoxicated and was expected to go on trial in March.

Also charged for the murder of Juan Ramirez is Anthony Diaz. He was picked up last week during a traffic stop on Villa Drive, near Up River Road.

The witness, who we are not identifying by name, told police he dropped Juan Ramirez off at the car wash for a meeting, but stuck around with his son in order to "watch his back" because he had a "bad feeling."

The witness said Ramirez planned to meet with a Texas Syndicate gang member known as "Ant", who police have identified as Anthony Diaz. While the witness was watching from a distance, he alleges Diaz opened fire on Ramirez.

According to court documents, the shooter then got behind the wheel of a Pontiac Grand Am and fled the scene. The witness and his son followed the shooter until they were allegedly threatened with a gun. Both witnesses then returned to the car wash in order to help Ramirez.

The Medical Examiner says Ramirez had gunshot wounds to his upper back, right arm, chest, left leg and his left ear. Ramirez was rushed to the hospital where he died.

Officers later found five shells casings at the scene, including four that were in a trash can. A small plastic baggy containing a substance believed to be crystal meth was also found near the trash can.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Investigators aren't saying much about the arrest this afternoon for the murder of Juan Ramirez, 34, at a car wash early Monday morning. Members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force arrested Anthony Diaz, 29, during a traffic stop at Villa Drive and Up River Road around 2 p.m.

We're told he was a passenger in the vehicle that was stopped. Police say his bond on the murder warrant is set at one million dollars. Nueces County jail officials told us this afternoon he was being held on a much lower bond for lesser charges.

Police aren't telling us if they have any other suspects in Ramirez's death. As of this afternoon, a Justice of the Peace has not released an arrest affidavit for Diaz. Why? The office is waiting on approval from the police department.

Before 4 a.m. on Monday, Ramirez was found gravely injured from multiple gunshot wounds at the car wash near the intersection of 15th and Morgan Avenue. He was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police had previously released surveillance video from the car wash which shows two men around what appears to be a Ford Fusion sedan about the same time as the murder. Investigators also said they were looking for a maroon Pontiac Grand Am in connection with the case.

We've reported on Anthony Diaz in the past. Back in 2011 he was featured as a Corpus Christi Police Department Gang Member of the Week and later for his arrest on allegations he was harboring a suspect wanted for murder in Mathis.
