ALICE - Police in Alice are investigating complaints from parents about a soccer league for their children that they paid for, but the kids never got to play a game. Parents say that the president of the Alice Youth Soccer Association collected the entry fees, but the league never even got started.

Jackie Silva is a soccer mom and coach. She, like many other parents in Alice, paid the $60 fee per child to play in the AYSA league in the spring. She registered her three children, but nothing came of it.

"Nothing happened. It just disappeared into thin air," Silva says.

Silva says the president of the league, Matilda Guerrero, collected the registration fees from parents, but never made a game schedule, reserved the fields, or paid for the uniforms the league ordered. Silva says she tried to look at expense reports but says she was told by the bank that only Guerrero could access those documents. And every time parents asked why the league was getting delayed, Guerrero always had a new reason.

"It was a different excuse, different story every time as to why we couldn't start," Silva says.

Now Guerrero can't be found, the AYSA is disbanded, and most of the parents haven't gotten their money back. Silva hasn't been able to get a hold of Guerrero and sent several emails to the South Texas Soccer Association asking for help, but they've done nothing so far.

In the end, Silva is just upset for her kids.

"It's upsetting because I look at my kids and they didn't get to play the sport. And its upsetting for parents who are struggling to pay several fees for someone to just get up and walk away with it," Silva says.

Now the Boys and Girls Club of Alice will start a new soccer league for the kids. They say they are eager to get kids out and playing soccer again.

Alice Police are urging any parent who paid for this league to come forward and talk with them. They say they will continue to investigate.
