ALICE - If you're heading out west of Alice watch out for a traffic crash cleanup on Highway 359 near Highway 281.

A DPS trooper says the driver of a sand/gravel hauler took a curve too fast and overturned. He wasn't seriously injured.

Crews are working to cleanup a load of materials that spilled on the road.

CORPUS CHRISTI - A crash closed Staples and Wooldridge this morning as firefighters blocked the intersection to treat 3 children and 2 drivers hurt in a rear-end crash.

The driver of a Chevy Tahoe slammed into the back of Mercury stopped for a red light. Police say the driver claimed he saw a green light.

The three children in the back of the car suffered severe injuries and were taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital. We're told they are an 11-year old, a 10-year old and a 7-year-old. The driver of the car was also injured, but was able to go to the hospital with the children.

The driver of the Tahoe also suffered serious injury. He was taken to Bay Area Hospital.

The northbound side of the intersection remains closed as police continue their investigation.

ROBSTOWN - A 16-year-old girl suffered serious injuries when a friend crashed into a telephone pole along on Highway 77 south of Robstown.

According to state troopers, the driver became distracted and drifted into the center median. When he went to get back on the road, he overcorrected and went across all lanes of traffic before hitting the pole.

The female passenger was pinned in the car by the impact. She's at CHRISTUS Spohn Memorial Hospital. All lanes of traffic were closed down to allow HALO Flight to pick up the girl.

The driver was picked up by his parents.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Both directions of S. Padre Island Drive at Everhart Road wwer closed due to a cement truck and a couple of cars that crashed on the eastbound side.

As of 1pm, police have opened the middle and outside eastbound lanes of the SPID freeway at Everhart. The westbound lanes remain closed.

The cement truck crashed into the center dividers while heading east and broke apart when landed in the westbound lanes of traffic.

According to police, seven people were injured in the crash.

TxDOT will need to come out and repair a couple of center concrete dividers that were knocked over in the crash. There's also three damaged cars and the cement truck in pieces on the road.

Seek an alternate route by using main roads or the Crosstown Extension to get the main roads on the southside of town.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Hazmat crews had to be called out for a diesel spill at a crash scene along Highway 44 this morning.

A truck hauling a flatbed trailer was hit while making a turn. Police say the driver had cut across the path of a small car heading in the same direction.

The impact punched a hole in the side of the truck's fuel tank. One lane of Highway 44 was shut down while crews cleaned up the spill.

No one was injured, but the truck driver was ticketed for causing the accident.

CORPUS CHRISTI - At least 2 southbound lanes of the Harbor Bridge remain closed at a gravel truck and the load are blocking traffic.

There's also a heavily damaged car at the scene. Emergency crews had to go up the northbound side of the Harbor Bridge in order to get to the crash site.

The driver of the truck was unable to avoid a small car stalled in the right hand lane. The truck flipped right after slamming into the back of the car.

The woman in the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Her passengers were not injured. The driver of the truck managed to get out of the wreck on his own.

If you are heading to Corpus Christi from Portland, use the Joe Fulton Corridor access on North Beach to take the trip up to I-37 near Carbon Plant Road.

BANQUETE - The rising sun is being blamed for causing a woman to crash into a pole and historical marker out on Highway 44 this morning.

She told DPS the sun made it hard for her to see where she was on the road. The front end of her car was torn up by the crash at Highway 44 and FM 666.

The woman was taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital. A trooper on the scene did not know haw badly she was injured.

DPS is still investigating the crash.

SKIDMORE - State troopers are investigating a fatal crash on Highway 359 a few miles west of Skidmore. A trooper says the driver of a Dodge Durango veered across the center line and slammed head-on into a cargo van.

The driver of the van did not survive the crash. It took more than an hour to free a woman in her 20's from the wreckage of the Dodge Durango. Initial reports indicate she has severe injuries.

Halo Flight has confirmed a 2-year-old boy was also flown from the accident scene to Driscoll Children's Hospital with serious injuries. A trooper says the second child in the SUV, a 2-month-old baby, was taken to a hospital in Beeville.

There's no further information on the identity of the driver who perished in the crash.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Drivers on Old Brownsville and Saratoga were put in a slippery situation when crude oil was discovered on the road.

The Corpus Christi Fire Department came out to investigate after receiving calls of cars slipping on the road. The truck responsible left the scene and a trail of oil between a quarter to a half a mile long.

Fire crews put down about 20 bags of absorbnt to soak up the oil, but it still wasn't enough to make the road safe.

Traffic was diverted to alternate routes as TxDOT crews from Corpus Christi and Robstown brought in sand trucks to absorb the oil.

Information from the Texas Department of Transportation

CORPUS CHRISTI - A TxDOT crew will be making unscheduled pavement repairs tonight at various locations throughout Corpus Christi. This will be a slow-moving operation and Corpus Christi police officers will assist with traffic control.

The crew will work from 9 p.m. - 6 a.m. when traffic is at a minimum. Repairs will include locations on eastbound SH 358 (SPID), northbound and southbound SH 286 (Crosstown), the Harbor Bridge northbound and southbound and southbound I-37 in the Rand Morgan Road area.

Motorists are urged to be alert for this mobile operation, to slow down and to move over so the crew has room to work.

Weather Note: Dense sea fog will move across Corpus Christi this evening and remain in place until roughly 5 a.m.

CORPUS CHRISTI - A truck driver who crashed while reaching for something in his truck was trapped for half an hour in the wreckage along I-37.

According to State Trooper Corporal Garcia, the man from Robstown was heading north near George West when he crashed.

We're told the Farmers Brothers Coffee employee was getting ready stop for lunch at Van's BBQ. The truck ended up on the roof.

The good news he has only minor bruises and scrapes. It took some time for crews to not only free the driver, but to clean up all the portions of coffee and creamer spilled all over the road.

NUECES COUNTY - A Corpus Christi man headed home from a fishing trip with his family died in a rollover crash on FM 70 near County Road 67 this afternoon.

State troopers say Noe Diaz, 43, was driving too fast for slick road conditions when he lost control and flipped his Dodge Ram.

Diaz died at the scene. His 10-year-old daughter and young niece were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The rest of the family witnessed the entire crash as they were following Diaz.

NUECES COUNTY - Emergency crews are working two major crashes on FM 70 (Chapman Ranch Rd). Fire crews had trouble finding out the exact location of the worst crash due to confusion from witnesses on their exact location.

Scanner traffic indicates three vehicles were involved in the crash near the curve at FM 67. Several patients are seriously injured, including some who are trapped in a truck.

Crews from multiple departments are at the scene. Halo Flight is unable to launch due to poor weather conditions.

There's also a tractor-trailer is flipped near the intersection with Hwy 286 at the Chapman Ranch post office.

Law enforcement is directing traffic off onto smaller county roads in both areas. State troopers have not provided any information on the crashes yet.

KARNES CITY - The Texas Department of Transportation has closed off nine miles of road in Karnes County to allow the cleanup of oil spilled from a tanker truck on FM 81 and FM 1144.

A spokesman says three miles of FM 81, FM 1144 to County Road 217, is closed off. Also six miles of FM 1144, from FM 81 to County Road 197 is closed.

TxDOT says rain caused some problems with the cleanup today, so the roads will remain closed until at least Tuesday morning.

Seek alternate routes if headed towards the roads west of Karnes City and south of Falls City.

CORPUS CHRISTI - A test drive took a turn for the worse when the driver of a box truck rolls over on the S.P.I.D. access road near Kostoryz.

Police said the driver of the truck was trying to switch lanes when it hit a grey car in its left lane, then hit the highway wall and rolled over.

The driver was only checking to see how the truck was running and did not have any merchandise inside.

He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

CORPUS CHRISTI - The City of Corpus Christi blames a contractor for the need to redo a section of Kostoryz Road that's already undergone extensive work.

Crews will be back out on Kostoryz, between Mansheim and Sunnybrook, to rip up the new concrete so the city can repair the storm water system.

According to the city, Texas Stirling Construction will foot the bill because concrete was laid down before inspectors were able to get a look at the infrastructure below.

KRIS 6 News incorrectly reported earlier today that Reytec was the contractor on the project. That information was based on statements from a city employee.

Repairs on the stretch of Kostoryz should last through most of next week. Traffic will only be impacted from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

CORPUS CHRISTI - The driver of a truck is being cited for not having insurance after his trailer came loose and hit the back of a sedan on S. Padre Island Drive this morning.

The woman in the sedan wasn't injured in the crash. Police are working to get a towing company to haul off the trailer carrying a backhoe.

Traffic is down to one lane on SPID eastbound before the Staples Street exit.
