AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Texas high school football championship games are returning to the $1.2 billion home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The University Interscholastic League said Tuesday that AT&T Stadium will be the site of all 12 high school title games for the second year in a row. The 80,000-seat venue has been the site for the larger classifications since 2010.

Last season was the first time the six-man championships were played in Arlington, Texas.

The UIL says last year's Class 5A Division I title game set a Texas high school attendance record with a crowd of 54,347 for Allen's 63-28 victory against Pearland.

The state's largest classification is now Class 6A, and six-man is now known as Class 1A.

UIL State Basketball Tournaments Moving to San Antonio Alamodome http://www.kristv.com/news/uil-state-basketball-tournaments-moving-to-san-antonio-alamodome/ http://www.kristv.com/news/uil-state-basketball-tournaments-moving-to-san-antonio-alamodome/ Sports - High School Tue, 15 Jul 2014 2:06:12 PM UIL UIL State Basketball Tournaments Moving to San Antonio Alamodome

AUSTIN- The 2015 University Interscholastic League Girls and Boys State Basketball Tournaments will be played at the Alamodome in San Antonio the UIL announced Tuesday.

The change comes as a result of UIL staff seeking a solution to the difficulties with availability and affordability of hotels caused by concurrent events in Austin.

In June, UIL staff asked for guidance from the UIL Legislative Council as it related to the basketball state tournament venue. The council authorized staff to move the basketball state tournaments to San Antonio in 2015. The Alamodome has worked with UIL staff to finalize arrangements for the upcoming girls and boys basketball state tournaments.

"The decision to move the basketball state tournaments has been a difficult one," said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. "The tournaments have enjoyed a rich tradition in Austin, but in order to provide the best experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans, it is best to move the UIL basketball state tournaments to another excellent venue in Texas, the San Antonio Alamodome."

The first UIL Basketball State Tournament was played in Austin in 1921. Gregory Gym on the University of Texas at Austin campus began hosting the boys tournament beginning in 1931, and the girls tournament was added in 1951. The Frank Erwin Center on the University of Texas at Austin campus has hosted the boys and girls state basketball tournaments since 1978.

"The Alamodome has a proven history of hosting high-profile championship sporting events," said Michael Sawaya, San Antonio Convention & Sports Facilities Director. "We look forward to welcoming to San Antonio the many student-athletes, families, and fans to the 2015 State Championship Basketball Tournaments, and are honored to have been selected to host this great event."

The girls basketball state tournament will take place March 5-7, 2015 and the boys tournament will be March 12-14. Details about ticket sales will be forthcoming.

"We're thrilled the UIL has chosen San Antonio to host one of the state's premier high school championships," said Casandra Matej, San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau Director. "From NCAA Final Fours to the Spurs' march to a fifth NBA crown last month, San Antonio has proven to be a championship city when it comes to basketball. We look forward to providing another unforgettable experience for players, fans and officials at the 2015 UIL State Basketball Tournaments."

CORPUS CHRISTI - Football season is right around the corner - we are just two months away from two-a-days kicking off. Meanwhile, we got a little taste of Friday Night Fever on a Saturday afternoon in June.

The Rockport-Fulton Pirates proved that they're a team to keep an eye out for in the fall. The Pirates won the 7 on 7 tournament in Weslaco on Saturday afternoon, punching their ticket to the State Tournament in College Station on July 10th and 11th.

The Pirates breezed through pool play with a 3-0 record, and then defeated Monte Alto 28-26 in the championship game. The Pirates have a new head Coach in Jay Siebert, and they're excited about the upcoming season.

"We're excited because we really didn't know about this and once we heard about it it was one of the goals that we worked for and we accomplished it so we're pretty proud of each other," quarterback Anthony Resendez said. "It gets our name out there because a lot of people might not think much of us, and now that they hear our name coming around it's going to be different when it comes fall."

MLB Draft: Two Former Corpus Christi High School Standouts Drafted on Day 2 http://www.kristv.com/news/mlb-draft-two-former-corpus-christi-high-school-standouts-drafted-on-day-2/ http://www.kristv.com/news/mlb-draft-two-former-corpus-christi-high-school-standouts-drafted-on-day-2/ Sports - High School Fri, 6 Jun 2014 8:36:31 PM MLB Draft: Two Former Corpus Christi High School Standouts Drafted on Day 2

CORPUS CHRISTI - It was a day they will never forget. Two former high school stars in Corpus Christi were drafted to the MLB. Former John Paul II star Jose Trevino was picked up in the 6th round by the Texas Rangers, and about an hour later former Moody Trojan pitcher Michael Franco was drafted in the 7th round by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Trevino is a 2011 graduate of John Paul II and was a two-time district MVP with the Centurions. He tied the Texas state record hammering 25 homeruns his senior year, as he led the Centurions to back to back State Championships in 2010 and in 2011.

After graduation, Trevino went on to play college ball at Oral Roberts in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he hit over .300 with 10 homeruns and 43 RBI this past season in his junior year.

We talked to Trevino right after he got drafted by the Rangers, and he was quick to remember his time and accomplishments at John Paul II.

"I owe a lot to them and Coach Castillo especially. He really taught me not only about baseball but about life as well, so he's really helped me out," said Trevino.

Moody's Michael Franco was picked up in the 7th round (217th overall pick) by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Franco, a 2010 graduate, won a State Championship with the Trojans in 2007. He was a two-time All-State Pitcher with an outstanding 15-0 record and 0.85 ERA his senior year with the Trojans.

He went on to play college baseball at Howard College in Big Spring, TX and then transferred to Florida International University in University Park, FL. He was 9-3 with an ERA of 1.09 with over 100 strike outs in his junior year this past season at FIU.

CORPUS CHRISTI - Sinton is back in the State Tournament. The Pirates advanced to the Class 3A Semifinals with two-straight wins facing elimination. The fifth-ranked Pirates beat Hidalgo 11-2 and 5-2 on Saturday evening to win the Region IV Final best-of-three series.

"We hadn't lost a game since like February, so to bounce back shows this team's character and what we're made of," catcher Tracker Conn said. Then the senior added: "But we aint finished yet."

Next up for the Pirates is Argyle (31-9-1) at 1PM on Wednesday at Disch Falk field on the University of Texas campus in Austin. With a win, Sinton would advance to the 3A State Championship game on Thursday at 6:30PM.

"You're always happy for the kids because the kids set their goals and they have high expectations," Coach Gene Kasprzyk said.

This will be the Pirates first trip to State since 2007, and they'll be going for their fourth State Championship in school history - the last coming in 2002.
