Juan Acuña is the Chief Meteorologist for KZTV Action 10 News and is a true South Texas native having his family roots in Orange Grove. Juan grew up always fascinated with weather and he knew at a young age that he wanted to become a meteorologist. He went through the entire Orange Grove I.S.D. school system and graduated in 2003.

After graduation, he ventured off to San Antonio and attended the University of the Incarnate Word where he received his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in 2010. That same year, he was offered his first "on-air" position with the CBS affiliate in Midland/Odessa at KOSA-TV/CBS7. Juan enjoyed forecasting the challenging West Texas weather that included severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, heavy snow, blinding dust storms, and wild temperature swings.

After nearly two years in West Texas, Juan returned home to be with his family and found his home at KRIS Communications. Juan says that he is happy to be back in South Texas doing what he loves and hopes that he can serve the people of the Coastal Bend for years to come and be a reliable source for weather information.

In addition to completing his graduate work in Applied Meteorology from Mississippi State University, he is a Graduate Student Volunteer with the National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi and is also a substitute teacher for the Corpus Christi Independent School District (when time permits him to do so). He is also a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.

If you happen to see Juan out and about, don't hesitate to come and say hi!  He is always up for a nice weather chat!

Originally from the Klein area northwest of Houston, Matt Terhune was destined to become a meteorologist. Hurricane Alicia hit Houston in 1983 and accented his interest in hurricanes. A few minutes later, we went back inside, just before the backside roared through."

Matt headed to Texas A&M Unversity-College Station to pursue a degree in meteorology. Four months before college graduation, Matt began his first job in Waco at ABC affiliate KXXV as a weekend weatherman. Upon graduation in May 1999, Matt moved to Waco and transitioned to full-time as the morning meteorologist.

Two years later, Matt moved to the Coastal Bend, and he began his career at KRIS Communications as the morning/noon meteorologist. Matt was on the air during big weather stories like the Del Mar West Campus and Driscoll Middle School tornadoes in October 2002, Hurricane Claudette in July 2003, the Christmas 2004 snowstorm, the September 2010 record high Oso Creek flash flood, and the 2011 ice shower.

Matt enjoys working in his yard, fixing up his house, and spending playtime with his two children.

Matt has a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Texas A&M University-College Station and is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. He received the Caller-Times Best of the Best Reader's Choice award for local meteorologist in 2005. Matt has also lectured broadcast meteorology at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
