ARANSAS PASS - This week's Marquee Matchup is a big one in Class 16-2A-Division II with the league's four top teams going head to head. (3-2)Odem visits (3-2)Aransas Pass, while (3-2)Mathis heads to (4-0)San Diego. After Friday night two teams will be in the driver's seat for a District Title, while the other two will be playing catch up.

"One game can take away that district championship and we need to come out and be ready to play," Odem Receiver Ryan Andrade.

"A win on Friday would determine how we good we do in the playoffs," said Aransas Pass Linebacker Andrew Nicolou.

A.J. Martinez ran into a few bumps at the start of the season, but since has won a pair of games in blow out fashion whipping Robstown and Santa Rosa, while Gary Davenport's Panthers gained some momentum in a blow out win over Bishop, despite dropping back to back games in the two weeks prior.

"Biggest game of the year and we gotta play with all our heart," said Odem Cornerback Kirk Garcia.

"I'm sure they will be top three in our district it will be a challenge," said Aransas Pass Junior Gonzalez.

The key for both teams will be a fast start, the Panthers average 33 points a game, while the Owls score around 28.

"They have a good defense and they are quick and their linebackers are good and we just wanna pound them," said Aransas Pass Running Back William Butler.

The two met last season in non-district, before realignment with the Panthers edging Odem 20-19.

"It left a sour taste in our mouths and we are really excited to play them again this year and see what they got," said Center Ernesto Esqueda.

In this district a loss doesn't bounce you from the playoffs but it does put you behind the eight ball for a district title.
